The Smears
After James's departure, as is the practice in radio, references to him on-air were discouraged, and mentions by listeners glossed over.
However, he continued to produce a range of responses from his former colleagues:
A listener who rang GMR and asked if he had gone to another station was told by an unidentified woman that if he had it would "not be a reputable one" (James went on to broadcast on Talk Radio and Century 105, national and regional stations respectively);
The Local Advisory Committee (a group of members of the public which meets to discuss the Station's output) was given the same incomplete account of events and told that James had been invited to return to the station but had declined;
A former colleague attended a Press Conference called by a small company of which James was Media Officer, but refused to conduct an interview with James on the grounds that it "might not be politic to do so";
A Presenter at the Station told a charity organiser that he would not mention that James would be amongst those taking part in a charity event;
Another presenter was reprimanded by a Producer for mentioning James's presence at a charity event;
A Head of Department was reprimanded by Karen Hannah for inviting James to that Department's Christmas Party in December, 2000.
