This is not a British Broadcasting Corporation Website. Just a Coincidence.
They Wouldn't Publish it if it Was.
In September 1998 James H. Reeve left GMR, the BBC radio station in Manchester, after three and a half years there.
The true story behind his departure has carefully been kept from the listeners, the staff, the Press, and the highest levels of the BBC itself.
This is the story.
Since 1985 James H. Reeve has established a reputation on local, regional, and national radio, both independent and BBC, as a broadcaster who consistently and vociferously opposes racism.
Yet on September 22nd. 1998 he was called in front of two senior members of management at BBC GMR and asked to defend himself against complaints of the "gratuitous use of racist language on- and off-air."
His explanation, that his use of such terms was in the context of discussions about racism and formed part of anti-racist arguments, was dismissed.
The only complaints of which he has definite knowledge came from two of his colleagues.
James refused to tolerate such accusations and left the station in protest.
Those involved have subsequently presented a public version of the episode which omits crucial aspects and contains untruths. That version has been presented to the staff of the station, the Press, listeners, the BBC's lawyers, and the office of the former Director General. The purpose of this dishonesty was to protect the position of the station's Managing Editor.
This is the second time this site has been published. The first time, the BBC had it closed down within 48 hours. The previous hosts will not contact James about their decision to disable the site. The BBC have taken no legal action against James. It seems they wish merely to stop you reading what follows. The real story is here for you to read.
